It can be frustrating if you work in a specific folder a lot that Finder opens Latests by default. This means that you will have to navigate to another directory every time. You can tell Finder that you want to open any folder you choose:

2. Select a search type in Finder

You may have had to search through many folders for the file at times. While the default search option can be helpful in some instances, it is not efficient and fine-tuned to an extent.

You can modify Finder's default search parameters if you wish. This will ensure that the macOS knows exactly which folders it should search and reduce the effort required to find a file.

3. Rename multiple files at once in Finder

It can be unclear to rename multiple files in Finder, especially if you are using Windows.

Select the files that you wish to rename in Finder. To select files in a row of files, hold Shift or hold Cmd and then click to select them all.

The Action button (gear) is located at the top right of the window.

Select Rename X Items.

Choose a name format to select the naming convention. There are three options: Name, Index, and Name, and Counter: name, Date.

Start Number allows you to choose the beginning number in the number naming sequence.

4. Reverse Batch-Rename Files

macOS is here to help you if you make a mistake in batch-naming files. You can undo the batch-renaming of files with Finder.

In Finder, click Edit from the top-left corner.

Select Undo Rename.

Alternatively, you can use the Cmd+ Z keyboard shortcut for undoing the operation.

5. Force-Close and relaunch Finder

Force close the Finder and then relaunch it. This is the best way to deal with a slow Finder. This is useful if you need to change Finder's settings or if macOS displays a Finder Quit unexpectedly message.

6. Take Quick Action

Quick Actions can be used in conjunction with the sidebar. Its menu allows for quick edits to files.

Quick Actions are even more flexible and can handle multiple file types. The contextual menu will also change to reflect this. Quick Look, for instance, offers a markup tool and a rotate tool. It also has a PDF creation option. It's easy to use:

Open Finder in the gallery view. Or show the sidebar by using Shift+ Cmd +.

Right-click on a file to select Quick actions or locate the steps at the bottom of the sidebar.

Select Customization to choose an option or customize the context menu to suit your needs.

7. Quick Look in Finder

Windows' file explorer is superior in previewing files, but I think Windows has it beat in this area. The Quick Look ( a macOS fundamental ) proved that I underestimated Finder. You can make small changes or quick edits to the file without opening it directly. A brief Look is an excellent tool for inserting a signature, trimming an audio clip, and resizing an image. To open any file in Quick Look, just press Space.

Quick Look will pop up when you click on an image. You can add text or doodle to it, as well as crop. Quick Look also offers customized menus for different file types. You'll also see shortcuts for any file that you have opened.

Conclusion

Finder was criticized in the past for being unintuitive and inefficient. It's been improved recently thanks to macOS Mojave, which brings valuable features that will help you manage your content.

Quick Actions, for example, can help you reduce dependency on third-party applications. It is an excellent alternative to Finder.
